Durch den Mündleinsgraben hinauf auf die Höhe und am Waldrand entlang zum Kalbenstein – dem „Edelweiß“ hoch über dem Maintal. Zurück über schmale Pfade am steilen Hang, durch Kiefernwald und an den Weinbergen des Rehnützbergs vorbei.Up through the Mündleinsgraben onto the ridge and along the forest edge to the Kalbenstein – the “Edelweiß” high above the Main valley. Back on narrow paths across the steep slope, through pine woods and past the vineyards of the Rehnützberg.
Nach Erreichen des Waldes führt der Weg zum Kalbenstein, der auch „Edelweiß“ genannt wird – den Grund dafür sehen Sie an der Felskante emporragen.Once you reach the wood, the path leads to the Kalbenstein, also known as the “Edelweiß” – and you can see the reason for the name rising from the edge of the cliff.
Vor der Pension links ins Dorf. Bei der Bäckerei Rudolph auf der Hauptstraße nach links, nach der Wernbrücke rechts ab und an den Sportanlagen vorbei.Turn left into the village in front of the guesthouse. At Bäckerei Rudolph turn left along the main street, then right after the bridge over the Wern and past the sports grounds.
Bei einem landwirtschaftlichen Betrieb links und mit dem Weg 2 bergauf – das anstrengendste Stück der Wanderung. Erst durch eine schöne, schattige Lindenallee, später durch offenes Feld. Am Ende des Anstiegs lohnt der Blick zurück auf Eußenheim, das Werntal und den unteren Bachgrund: rund 100 Höhenmeter sind geschafft.Turn left at a farm and climb on trail “Weg 2” – the most strenuous stretch of the walk. First through a shady avenue of lime trees, later across open fields. At the top of the climb, turn round for the view over Eußenheim, the Wern valley and the lower Bachgrund: about 100 metres of ascent are behind you.
Nach dem Feldgehölz rechts und gleich wieder links, weiter mit dem Weg 2 am Waldrand. Nach der Stromleitung treffen Sie auf den Verbindungsweg Eußenheim–Gambach, folgen ihm kurz und biegen in den nächsten Flurweg links ein – kurz steil bergauf.After the copse turn right and immediately left again, staying on “Weg 2” along the forest edge. Beyond the power line you meet the link road between Eußenheim and Gambach; follow it briefly, then turn left onto the next field track – a short steep climb.
Nach Erreichen des Waldes stehen Sie nach wenigen hundert Metern am Kalbenstein. Sie befinden sich hier im Naturschutzgebiet Grainberg-Kalbenstein-Saupurzel; im Mai und Juni blühen viele seltene Pflanzen, vor allem Knabenkrautarten und Diptam.A few hundred metres after you reach the wood you stand at the Kalbenstein. This is the Grainberg-Kalbenstein-Saupurzel nature reserve; in May and June many rare plants are in flower, above all orchids and burning bush.
Weiter auf dem Weg 2, gleichzeitig blaues „M“ des Main-Wanderwegs, nach links über zunächst enge Pfade und am steilen Hang entlang. Nach einem steilen Abstieg durch einen Kiefernwald erreichen Sie wieder ebenes Gelände.Continue on “Weg 2”, which here also carries the blue “M” of the Main hiking trail, to the left along narrow paths across the steep slope. After a steep descent through pine woods you reach level ground again.
Auf dem „M“ bleiben, bis Sie am Ende der Weinberge am Rehnützberg den Bauzaun eines Steinbruches erreichen. Daneben führt der Weg links bergauf bis zum nächsten Flurweg – wieder Weg 2 –, dem Sie nach rechts bis zur unteren Ecke des Bauzaunes folgen.Stay on the “M” until you reach the fence of a quarry at the end of the vineyards on the Rehnützberg. Beside it the path climbs to the left up to the next field track – “Weg 2” again – which you follow to the right as far as the lower corner of the fence.
Dort, bei einem Bildstock, links ab und auf einem Wiesenweg zur Bundesstraße. Nun müssen Sie einige hundert Meter den Verkehrslärm ertragen, wenn Sie oberhalb der Straße wandern.There, at a wayside shrine, turn left and follow a meadow track down to the main road. For a few hundred metres you will have to put up with the traffic noise as you walk above the road.
Wer möchte, geht am Maingestellsgraben den Trampelpfad links durch die Hecke, aufwärts bis zum Asphaltweg. Diesem folgen Sie nach rechts und treffen nahe beim Kreuz wieder auf den längeren Weg nach Eußenheim.If you like, take the beaten path to the left through the hedge at the Maingestellsgraben and climb to the surfaced lane. Follow it to the right and you rejoin the longer route back to Eußenheim near the cross.
Den nächsten Asphaltweg bei einem Kreuz links und gleich wieder rechts bergab. Am Ortseingang von Eußenheim der Straße nach links folgen, bei der Bäckerei rechts – zurück am Haus.Take the next surfaced lane at a cross to the left and immediately right again, downhill. At the edge of Eußenheim follow the road to the left, turn right at the bakery – and you are back at the guesthouse.
Sie verlassen die Pension nach links ins Dorf. Bei der Bäckerei Rudolph gehen Sie auf der Hauptstraße nach links, biegen nach der Wernbrücke rechts ab und wandern an den Sportanlagen vorbei. Nach wenigen hundert Metern wenden Sie sich bei einem landwirtschaftlichen Betrieb nach links und folgen dem Weg 2 durch den Mündleinsgraben bergauf. Dies ist das anstrengendste Stück der Wanderung. Zunächst wandern Sie durch eine schöne, schattige Lindenallee, später durch offenes Feld. Am Ende des Anstiegs sollten Sie den Blick zurück richten und die schöne Aussicht auf Eußenheim, das Werntal und den unteren Bachgrund genießen. Sie haben jetzt ca. 100 Höhenmeter überwunden.Leave the guesthouse to the left into the village. After a few hundred metres turn left at a farm and follow trail “Weg 2” uphill through the Mündleinsgraben. This is the most strenuous stretch of the walk. First you go through a lovely shady avenue of lime trees, later across open fields. At the top of the climb do turn round and enjoy the view over Eußenheim, the Wern valley and the lower Bachgrund. You have now gained about 100 metres in height.
Nach dem Durchqueren eines Feldgehölzes wenden Sie sich nach rechts und dann gleich wieder links und folgen dem Weg 2 weiter am Waldrand entlang. Wenn Sie eine Stromleitung unterquert haben, treffen Sie auf den Verbindungsweg von Eußenheim nach Gambach. Ihm folgen Sie ein kurzes Stück und biegen in den nächsten Flurweg links ein. Er führt Sie kurz steil bergauf und, nach Erreichen des Waldes, nach wenigen hundert Metern zum Kalbenstein, der auch „Edelweiß“ genannt wird. Sie sehen den Grund dafür an der Felskante emporragen. Sie befinden sich nun in einem äußerst interessanten Naturschutzgebiet. Im Mai und Juni sehen Sie viele seltene Pflanzen, vor allem viele Knabenkrautarten und Diptam.After crossing a copse, turn right and then immediately left again and continue on “Weg 2” along the forest edge. Once you have passed under a power line you meet the link road from Eußenheim to Gambach. Follow it for a short way and turn left onto the next field track. It climbs steeply for a while and, a few hundred metres after you reach the wood, brings you to the Kalbenstein, also known as the “Edelweiß”. You can see the reason for the name rising from the edge of the cliff. You are now in a remarkable nature reserve: in May and June you will find many rare plants here, above all orchids and burning bush.
